- Style Size Settings
-
- Each setting in this group controls a different aspect of the text size.
-
- SIZE: Measured in points (a point is 1/72 of an inch -- one inch high \
- text will be 72 points high. Average text in a book is 10 points). The \
- size in the height of the characters, as well as the width.
-

-
- This screen is where you choose and manipulate a graphic image. Individual \
- help messages are available for each general group of options.
-
- Button Functions:
- IMPORTED IMAGES: Change over to the Graphics Import screen, used to add you \
- own graphic images to PrintPower Pro. See the overview there for more \
- information.
- ###########################
-
- #GraHelpImp
- Graphics Imports
-
- With the functions on this screen, you can create and maintain a library \
- of your own graphic images. These images are stored in a subdirectory \
- named IMPORT off your PrintPower Pro main directory. See the individual \
- help messages for each group for more information.

- from PrintPower Pro's built in graphics.
- ADD NEW: Brings up a file selector, from which you can select a GIF, PCX, \
- LBM, or uncompressed BMP format image to bring into your import library. \
- The file is converted \
- to the GIF format, and copied to the IMPORT directory.
- DELETE IMPORT: Prompts you to confirm whether or not you want to delete \
- the currently selected image -- ONLY from your library. This does not \
- delete your original image.
- ###########################
-
- #GraOpt
- Graphics Options
-
- SCALE 1/1: Normally, PrintPower Pro attempts to preserve an image's height \
- ratio, so the image won't be stretched out of shape. However, this can cause \
- the graphic to not perfectly fit it's frame. Turning SCALE 1/1 off makes \
- the graphic fit the frame, always.
- BG DRAW: PrintPower Pro's Library images have "background" areas that you \
- usually want to remain transparent. This setting causes those areas to be \
- drawn (generally in white). Imported graphics don't usually have their \
-
- background properly set, so this setting comes on automatically for imports.
- COLORIZE: In combination with the COLOR AS list (q.v.) causes all colors in \
- the graphic to be shades of the color selected.
- MIRROR R/L: Reverses the image left to right.
- FLIP U/D: Reverses the image top to bottom.
- ########################
-
- #GraCol
- Graphics Color As List
-
- This setting has no effect on your graphic unless the COLORIZE check box is \
- set. When used, COLORIZE changes every color in the graphic image into a \
- shade of this color. Brightness of each color of the original image is \
- preserved.

- closely matches your printer.
-
- Then choose your paper size, and whether or not your paper is fan fold \
- (in a big long strip) or fed into the printer one sheet at a time.
-
- When that's done, select TEST to print out an alignment test. A dark \
- outline will be printed around the printable area of your page. Adjust \

- #PrintMethod
- Print Method
-
- This list is different for every type of printer. There are some special \
- keywords describing each method that help you discover which method you \
- will want to use for this document.
-
- MONOCHROME: Prints with the black ribbon or ink cartridge only.
- FOUR COLOR: Prints in full color with your Black, Blue, Red and Yellow \
- ribbon or ink cartridge. Color printers only, of course.
- TRIPLY INTERLACED: A special method of printing for 9-pin dot matrix \
- printers that greatly enhances the printout, but takes up to three times \
- longer to print.
- DPI: A measurement of print quality. DPI is an acronym for Dots Per Inch. \
- Higher DPI means better print quality, but the tradeoff is longer print time. \
- Many printers offer several DPI choices. Experiment with the different \
- DPI settings until you have a feel for the quality/time tradeoff.
- #################
-
- #PrintCopies
- Number of Copies to Print
-
- ONE COPY: Just one copy of your document will be printed.
-
- MANY COPIES: Enter the number of copies you want printed on the line below \
- this radio button. This will NOT perform the "macro expansion" discussed \
- in the program manual.
-
- FROM DATABASE: Enter the name of the database from which to draw information. \
- Only as many copies of the document will be printed as there are records \
- in the database. This performs any "macro expansions" you have entered into \
- the text of your document. Please see your manual for more information.
-
- ALL RECORDS/TAGGED RECORDS: Choose whether all records will be used for \
- printing, or just the ones with an "X" or a "Y" in the tag field.
- #################
-
- #PrintScale
- Print Scale
-
- Changes the size of your document. This can be useful when you are creating \
- a very large or very small document, and wish to shrink or enlarge it to \
- get a reasonably sized printout to see how it looks printed.
-
- Select a radio button option, or choose OTHER and fill in the scale size \
- you want applied just below. You can custom scale from 1% to 10000%, which \
- translates to 100 times smaller, or 100 times larger.
- #################
-
- #PrintSpecial
- Special Option
-
- PRINT REVERSED: This "mirrors" your output, so it appears as if it is being \
- seen through a mirror. Useful if you're creating T-shirts, Mugs, or other \

- #WizMain
- The Wizard's Advice for the Top Menu
-
- Blank page, blank mind? Give a thought for a minute about what you want \
- to say. Then add a headline to make your point. Afterwards, add graphics \
- and borders to spice up your design. Then tweak \
- your fonts, colors, and other features to get just the right look. If \
- you've got a more complex concept, check the manual for instructions on \
- the powerful text editor.
-
- Got to revise something? Click on the item and a menu will appear for it. \
- If items overlap, repeatedly click on the item you desire, and it will \
- rotate into selection.
-
- To print, save, get a proof-preview, or exit the editor, select the FILE MENU.

-
- #WizDragAdd
- The Wizard's Advice on Drag-to-Add
-
- You've dragged out an area with the mouse, now choose what sort of item \
- you want to fill in that space. You can always change the size and \
- position later, so if you haven't got it just right, you don't have to \
- cancel.
-
- Dragging out an area like this is also the best way to zoom into your \
- document. The zoom-in and zoom-out icons are useful, but it can take \
- repeated zooms to get right up close to what you want to see. \
- Anytime you want to zoom in on something, just drag a box around it, \
- and select "Zoom In" from the toolbox above.
- #################

- #WizFile
- The Wizard's Advice on the File Menu
-
- The choices you see above are those in the File Menu. We've grouped \
- major operations like PRINT and EXIT under File Selections so you will \
- remember to SAVE your file before you do either of these options.
- #################
-
-
- #WizImageSel
- The Wizard's Advice on Graphics
-
- The green X in the graphic's frame shows you the size and placement of the actual \
- graphic image within the frame. To make the graphic fill the frame completely, either resize \
- the frame to fit the X, or select "EDIT IMAGE" and turn off the SCALE 1:1 option.
- Graphics and borders are always drawn under any text or headlines in \
- your document, so there's no chance your message will be hidden by an image.
- If you've got your own graphics images, in the PCX, GIF or LBM formats (if \
- you don't know what these formats are, chances are you don't have any), \
- you can use these graphics in your documents. To do this, you'll have to \
- "import" each graphic you want to use. See the manual for more on this.
- Just a note for mouse users: You can right click and drag the outline while in \
- this menu --- you don't have to go into MOVE/SIZE. Keyboard users will, though.
- #################
-
- #WizHeadSel
- The Wizard's Advice on Headlines
-
- The series of X's in the frame show you where the text will be drawn. To see \
- the actual text, hit PREVIEW, or press the middle mouse button (if you have one).
- Headline Text is automatically sized to fit in the Headline Frame, but you'll \
- notice many a time that it won't take up all the available space. This occurs \
- when the shape of the words prevents a perfect match between size and shape. \
- If you have just a few words, and want them aligned vertically, it's best to \
- break each word up on its own line in the HEADLINE EDITOR. That will tell the \
- Headline formatter to keep each word on a different line.
- By the way, you can use the keyboard commands for BOLD, ITALIC, etc. while in the \
- HEADLINE EDITOR. Check the manual for a list of these commands, as well as \
- the simple directions for marking, cutting, and pasting selections of text.
- Just a note for mouse users: You can click and drag the outline while in \
- this menu --- you don't have to go into MOVE/SIZE. Keyboard users will, though.
- #################
-
- #WizBordSel
- The Wizard's Advice on Borders
-
- The space between the inner and outer frame is where the border will be drawn. \
- Even so, you can click inside the inner frame and still select the border.
-
- One thing to be careful of -- if you make your border width very large in relation \
- to your border frame's size, the program may not be able to make a perfect border. \
- You'll know this is happening when there appears to be only one frame for the border.
-
- Just a note for mouse users: You can click and drag the outline while in \
- this menu --- you don't have to go into MOVE/SIZE. Keyboard users will, though.
- #################
-
- #WizTextSel
- The Wizard's Advice on Text
-
- The text editor is the most complex part of the program. It can appear daunting, \
- but once you understand the principle behind it, it will make good sense. There's \
- really not enough space here to explain fully, so if this explanation doesn't help, \
- please check the printed documentation.
- The text editor uses text STYLES as a form of shorthand. Each STYLE is a complete \
- set of text settings, including color, font, size, margin settings, etc. By reusing \
- a STYLE in different places in your text, you ensure that all of your text settings \
- are correctly set each time. When you insert a STYLE, the settings in that \
- style will affect the text following it. When you change STYLES, or modify the \
- settings that make a STYLE, all the text that style controls will change, too.
- There are three built-in styles, which are just suggestions. It's easiest at first \
- to experiment with these default styles before getting involved in creating \
- your own.
- One last thing -- if the computer speaker "binks" and a big red bar is drawn \
- on the bottom of the text frame, that means the text is overflowing. Either \
- edit your text smaller, or reduce the point size or width of your STYLES.
- #################
-
- #WizBordSize
- The Wizard's Advice for Border Size
-
- If you're not sure how to move and size, exit Advice, and pull up F1 HELP.
-
- The size of the border frame controls the outer reaches of the border, but \
- it does not change the width of the border itself. To change that, you'll \
- change the width number in the EDIT BORDER screen.
-
- Even if you make the border size too small for the border width, you can go \
- back and change the width or size to fix the problem.
- #################
-
- #WizHeadSize
- The Wizard's Advice for Headline Size
-
- If you're not sure how to move and size, exit Advice, and pull up F1 HELP.
-
- By changing the shape and size of a Headline Frame, you'll change the size \
- and word-wrap of the headline message. Generally, the larger the frame, the \
- larger the text.
-
- Do keep in mind, though, that the Headline formatter won't hyphenate words \
- so if you've got a really long word that's "jamming" the size of your text, then \
- go ahead and hyphenate it yourself.
- #################
-
- #WizImageSize
- The Wizard's Advice for Graphic Size
-
- You mouse users have it easy. Click and drag any of the sides or \
- corners of the flashing box. If you drag the center of the box, you'll \
- move the whole thing.
-
- Keyboard-only folks will need to use the cursor keys to move the box around. \
- If you hold the SHIFT key down while you move, it'll move a bit faster. \
- To change the size of the box, press INS. Now there's a tiny circle around \
- the lower right corner, which means when you cursor around, that corner alone will \
- move. Press INS again to move the whole box.
-
- The preceding information has been brought to you by F1, makers of "The Help Screen."
- ################
-
- #WizTextSize
- The Wizard's Advice for Text Size
-
- If you're not sure how to move and size, exit Advice, and pull up F1 HELP.
-
- Text, as opposed to Headline, doesn't change size to fit the frame. So if \
- your goal is to perfectly fit certain text in a certain area, maybe you would \
- have better luck with a Headline.
-
- However, if you've noticed your text is overflowing, you can either resize the \
- frame, right now, or you can change the point size or width of the STYLES you \
- are using in the text itself.
-
- When you change the frame, the text within it is word-wrapped according to the \
- STYLES you've used.
- #################
-
- #WizClone
- The Wizard's Advice for Cloning
-
- If you're not sure how to move and size, exit Advice, and pull up F1 HELP.
-
- You're in the Move/Size session for the newly created clone object, even \
- though it may not look that way. If you just hit OK, then you'll have two \
- identical items precisely overlapping each other.
-
- So be sure to move the clone before you exit!
- #################
-
- #WizZoom
- The Wizard's Advice for Zooming
-
- This toolbox is, for the most part, oriented towards the keyboard user. \
- There are mouse equivalents for all of these functions on and around the \
- document window, as follows:
-
- Zoom in and Zoom out are at the lower left and right corners of the window, and \
- look like a box getting closer, or farther away.
-
- A Full-Page Zoom is obtained by clicking on the little page icon at the upper \
- left of the document window, while a preview is triggered by clicking on the \
- tiny "Pv" icon at the upper right.
-
- Dragging the scroll bars will scroll around the page.
-
- The best way of zooming in is to click-and-drag a box around the area of \
- interest, then selecting "ZOOM IN" from the ADD AREA toolbox that then appears.
